In the present study, mesoporous silica-calcium carbonate nanocomposites (MSCs) were synthesized by the method of solvent evaporation, and then hydrothermally treated at three different pH values to determine the influence of pH on the antioxidant activity. The MSNs were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy. The antioxidant activities of MSCs-H were determined using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and reducing power assay. The prepared MSCs-H were spherical with a uniform distribution, a high specific surface area (200 m(2)/g), a narrow pore size distribution, and a high amount of surface silanol groups. The presence of calcium carbonate in the prepared composite was confirmed by XRD, FTIR, and SEM analyses. MSCs-H showed a higher antioxidant activity at pH 2.0 than at pH 7.0 or 10.0. In addition, a competitive reaction between the calcium ions and free radicals produced in the reaction of DPPH assay and a chain-scission reaction by hydrogen-donating antioxidants were hypothesized as the main reasons for the pH-dependent antioxidant activity.This is a new $2.99 first-person puzzle adventure with lots of redwoods and logic puzzles.
